Albany cyclist Geoff Cass will tackle the best riders in the world today when he competes in the Masters Road World Championships as part of the UCI World Cycling Tour in Slovenia.

Cass, a member of the Albany Cycling Club, qualified for the world masters final in April on Rottnest Island when he competed in the Perth qualifiers against riders from Australia and New Zealand and also won the State title that was on offer in his age class.

The jovial 67-year-old will test himself against the world's best in the male 65-69 age group individual time trial race over 18.6km in the city of Ljubljana.

It will be the second time Cass has represented Australia after competing in South Africa in 2012, where he finished seventh in the world final.

"I am at the top of my age group, so if I finished in the top 10 I would be very happy," Cass said. "Anything better will be a bonus."

Cass qualified for the world masters final in Italy last year but did not attend and said he was itching for another crack at such a big race.

"This is the first time I have used a coach, I have had one for the last 12 months to help get me ready," he said.

"I had a 23-second personal best at Rottnest, so I am hoping to replicate that but you are up against the best in the world, ex-Olympians and ex-world champions, so it's going to be tough."

Denmark cyclist and ACC member Kea Mumford qualified to represent Australia in the female 50-54 age group road race in Slovenia but will not compete.
