One person has died and several others are injured after a horror crash near Busselton on Saturday night.

It is believed a bus and a car collided at the intersection of Bussell Highway and Tuart Drive in Yalyalup about 6.30pm, about 220km south of Perth.

The driver of the car died at the scene and a female passenger sustained serious injuries. She was taken by St John Ambulance to Bunbury Regional Hospital.

Major crash will now take over the investigation and what caused the deadly crash to occur.

It comes after a 40-year-old man died at the same intersection in April after his motorbike collided with another vehicle, while a 69-year-old man died in an accident in March 2023 when his motorcycle was hit by a car.

Calls from residents to change the speed limit from 110 kilometres-per-hour to 80 kilometres-per-hour were raised in June 2022 after a spate of serious crashes along Bussell Highway, including the death of a 29-year-old man who was killed after his ute collided with a large truck.

The South West road is a notorious hotspot for crashes, despite recent upgrades.
