Former Australian all-rounder Nathan Coulter-Nile bags first five-wicket haul for Cowaramup

Former Australian all-rounder Nathan Coulter-Nile bagged his maiden five-wicket haul in South West cricket on Saturday, guiding his Cowaramup side to a win over Margaret River Hawks in the Busselton Margaret River Cricket Association’s A-grade competition. With the Bulls defending a first-innings total of 8-195, the fast bowler played a starring role as his side bowled the Hawks out for 129, finishing with figures of 5-26 from 6.1 overs. He took one wicket in his first spell before cleaning up the tail in the back-end of the innings, narrowly missing out on a hat-trick but taking three wickets in five deliveries in his sixth over before ending the game by claiming the final wicket with the first ball of his seventh. Batting at No.6 in the first innings, he also showed off his noted ball-striking ability by dispatching the first ball he faced over midwicket for six but departed trying to repeat the trick shortly after, being caught on the leg side boundary for eight from four deliveries. Having moved to the region this year, Coulter-Nile — who took 86 wickets for Australia and was playing in the Big Bash as recently as January this year — joined the Bulls with a commitment to play when available. While not quite dominating the competition, he has produced some solid performances this season, including taking 3-19 from 7.3 overs in his side’s 73-run season-opening loss to Margaret River. Cowaramup sit third on the competition’s ladder with a 3-3 win-loss record, behind the second-placed Hawks and ladder leaders Dunsborough.
