Young SW artists in the spotlight

RHYS DICKINSONAlbany Advertiser

The Margaret River Gallery has handed over its exhibiting space to four promising young artists.

Gallery director Salli Coppin told the Times Margaret River’s Kieron Broadhurst and Dunsborough’s Sarmarie Higgins are headlining the gallery’s Young Artist Showcase, which also features Perth artists Anya Brock and Hayley Walsh.

Ms Higgins is exhibiting 18 artworks — most of which had abstract, nature-based themes.

“Seventy-five per cent of my paintings are done without a brush and then I have colour co-ordination between cool colours and warm colours,” she said.

“There’s an organic flow between using water and different mediums that sets the different levels of pigmentation.”

Ms Higgins said the young group were thankful for the opportunity to show their work.

Pieces from the Young Artist Showcase will be displayed until October 31.
