Winter jazz to warm the soul

Albany Advertiser

The smooth, soulful sounds of jazz will fill the Capes region this winter, with acclaimed jazz artist Marilyn Keller to perform at Jazz At Fermoy on April 25.

The 27-year veteran of music and stage performance will play a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald along with other jazz classics alongside her six-piece band of South West and Perth-based musicians.

Currant Event Management’s Cindy Wiese said the musicians first approached Fermoy Estate several months ago as they believed the South West was the perfect environment to showcase their music.

Fermoy Estate’s Dale Ivanovic said the venue were committed to supporting live jazz events and the ticketed event for 150 guests would attract lovers of fine wine and classic jazz.

Local jazz trio Elixir will also play on the evening while guests are set to enjoy cocktail hour before Keller takes to the stage under a marquee.

The Times-sponsored event is the prelude to the new Jazz By The Bay festival to take place on the June long weekend.

Talks are under way with a number of venues in the region including Evans and Tate, Lamont’s and Pullman Resort Bunker Bay to host the festival.

The event would coincide with the International Jazz Festival in Perth to encourage more international artists to the region.

Tickets can be ordered on 9755 6285.
