Dastardly, deadly detective drama on the road

Stark Raven Theatre Co is bringing their production of Anthony Schaffer’s Sleuth to Margaret River and Augusta this weekend.

Director Sharon Kennedy described the Tony Award winning two actor play as “dastardly, funny and deadly”.

The two act play follows an exchange between a perilously infatuated mystery writer, Andrew Wyke, and Milo, his wife’s youthful lover and the game of infidelity, death and detection that ensues.

South West actors Ron Tait and Rhys Hughes star in the production, which features three characters and covers a huge range of emotions; transforming characters from welcoming and avuncular to sinister and deadly.

“It’s one of those plays where the audience thinks they know what’s happening before a few twists they don’t see coming upend expectations,” Ms Kennedy told the Times.

She said a minimalist set “designed to make the audience think”, film and innovative multimedia were used in the production “bringing the play into modern times”.

The play will be shown at the Margaret River Cultural Centre tomorrow, hosted by the Margaret River Theatre Group and at the Augusta Hall on Sunday, hosted by the Augusta Hall Committee.

The theatre company has been revising the play, which premiered in Bunbury in July, for the past month.
