WA chefs sink teeth into steak sanga challenge
Almost 50 WA venues will put their grills on the line this year as they vie to be crowned home of our State’s best steak sanga.
The 2019 Australian Hotels Association WA Steak Sandwich competition has begun, with venues from Esperance all the way to Broome registering to be in the hunt.
Now in its 12 year, the competition pits pubs, taverns, restaurants and bars against each other to see who can produce the ultimate steak sandwich.
AHA WA chief executive Bradley Woods said the competition sparked vigorous public debate across the State.
“Last year a lamb sandwich won the metropolitan competition and talkback radio went into meltdown,” he said.
“Each year we see more inventive creations emerge from kitchens across WA, and patrons are being treated to a huge variety of different versions of this iconic meal.
“There aren’t many meals that trump a good steak sandwich and as a result of this competition raising the bar each and every year, we undoubtedly have the best steak sandwiches in the country.”
Four finalists will be chosen from both the regional and metropolitan areas to participate in a live steak sandwich cook-off, held at the AHA WA Hospitality Expo at Crown Perth on May 14 and 15.
