Twins’ emergence is double trouble
While most 15-year-old cricketers are striving for an opportunity to play senior cricket, two Albany twin brothers have grabbed the chance with open arms in an incredible partnership against Denmark last Saturday.
Playing for North County, Matthew and Michael Ferreira produced a most memorable joint effort as they guided their side to an important 56-run win at McLean Park.
The right-handed Matthew began the brothers’ big afternoon as he reached a half-century batting at No.3 with Michael at the other end.
The pair shared in a 133-run partnership for the third wicket before the left-handed Michael was stumped shortly after surpassing the 50 mark.
When his brother fell on 54, Matthew remained unbeaten on 75 and from there he patiently worked his way towards triple figures.
Matthew chipped a ball into the deep for two runs to reach his maiden ton and finished 103 not out at the end of the 50 overs.
The siblings contri-buted 157 runs in the Bulldogs’ total of 4-232.
However, not to be outdone by Matthew’s first century, Michael delivered some destruction of his own with the ball to deliver a maiden five-wicket haul.
Michael, who bowls right-arm seamers, claimed openers Matt Burton and Jeff Atkinson on his way to figures of 5-21 from eight overs.
Three of his victims were bowled in an outstanding spell as the Magpies were reduced to 9-176.
And to cap things off, Michael also took a catch in the final dismissal of the day.
Michael, who has made three centuries, said it was a thrill to play so well with his brother.
“I haven’t really bowled well for most of the season,” Michael said.
“But it was good to come on early and get a good bowl. “It was great to bat for a while; generally we run each other out when we bat together.”
Matthew said scoring his first century in A-grade was extra special.
“It was a pretty nice feeling to make my first one in A-grade,” Matthew said.
“It was nice to have a good partnership with him and bat together.”
The twins said the aim was to be better players than their dad, Zimbabwean Test cricketer Neil Ferreira.
The pair play under-16s in the Albany Junior Cricket Association and are travelling to Perth regularly to play under-17s for Midland-Guildford in the WADCC Shield competition.
