Opinion: Ali Kent says Labor’s vision for Goldfields will be ‘costed, properly planned and implemented’

Four years ago, as the Labor candidate for Kalgoorlie, I stood next to former Premier Mark McGowan to announce WA Labor’s Plan for the Goldfields. It was a positive vision for our region to deliver things that had been neglected after years of inadequate effort by Liberal and National members for this region. I promised to be a strong, active, and local representative for my community who would work hard and get things done. Four years later, in the lead up to the next State election on March 8, I am proud to say WA Labor has delivered on that plan and on our vision for the Goldfields. We have tackled the big issues in our community. We’ve made significant investments in power, water, police, housing, land and other large infrastructure projects. We’ve also delivered significant cost of living relief for Kalgoorlie families, including slashing $2100 off power bills since 2021 and introducing the WA Student Assistance Payment for every parent with kids in primary or secondary school. Over $920,000 to Goldfields parents. I’ve also delivered on my commitments to support local community groups and organisations across the Goldfields, including sealing the Eastern Goldfields BMX Club’s track, funding a playground and furniture for the Goldfields Women’s Refuge, and investing in Mates4Mates Goldfields, making a real difference in our communities. If re-elected as your State Member of Parliament, I’m going to continue strongly supporting these community groups. The Cook Labor Government understands the importance of the Goldfields and has supported me every step of the way over the past four years. I am not stopping and I will continue to work tirelessly for the community I love. WA Labor has a vision for the Goldfields, and I will be talking about it every day in the lead up to the election. The Goldfields community can rest assured our vision for the future will be costed, properly planned and implemented by an experienced government. Compare that with the chaos and dysfunction of the Liberal and National parties. I believe they have no policies or plans that will deliver for the people of WA. They are more focused on fighting among themselves than they are on doing the hard work required to deliver for our State. The Liberals and Nationals are simply too big a risk for our State. For the sake of our economy, jobs, cost of living and providing the necessary infrastructure to set the Goldfields up for the long term, our community needs the strong, stable leadership that the Cook Labor Government has demonstrated it can provide. I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve achieved in the past four years for our community. I promise that, if re-elected, the Cook Labor Government will have the energy, experience and vision to deliver for our community into the future.
