Miner helps PCYC program
Albany PCYC will go the extra mile in helping novice drivers obtain their driver's licences thanks to a donation from mining group Rio Tinto.
The centre delivers the Keys for Life program which develops positive road user behaviour and facilitates the learner's permit theory test and will now provide driving lessons.
A 2009 Toyota Prado, a former mine site vehicle, was spruced up and delivered to the PCYC on Mon- day by Rio Tinto acting super- intendent for employment and community relations Justin Francesconi. "We heard the work the centre does and getting a driver's licence can be a barrier for employment," he said.
Albany PCYC manager Terry Eaton said having a driver's licence opened up life opportunities.
He said the next step would be hiring drivers to help show learner drivers the ways of the road.
Albany PCYC was last year recognised for its delivery of the program, along with eight Great Southern schools when the program celebrated its 10th anniversary.
