Albany Junior Cricket Association has won the A-section title at junior country week cricket after a thrilling final day of action in Perth yesterday.

Albany’s first XI went into the final day of the tournament undefeated but came up against the second-placed Geraldton who were still in contention to win the title.

Batting first at Des Penman Reserve, Albany appeared set to post a big total at 3-106 following solid contributions from Aidan Dallimore and brothers Matthew and Michael Ferreira.

However they collapsed losing 7-37 in the latter stages of the innings to be all out for 143.

Geraldton went on to pass the victory target eight wickets down and ended up 9-164 at the completion of their 50 overs.

Albany though finished on top of the standings as both them and Geraldton each had four wins and a loss but Albany’s superior efforts with bat and ball getting them home.

Less than three points separated the two sides on the final standings.
