A 60m-high mobile phone tower will be installed in Cuballing after the shire approved a development application from Optus.

Funded under the Federal Government’s Mobile Black Spot Program, the facility on Cooke Road in the Stratherne area will boost telecommunications coverage in the region.

It follows the shire inviting public comment on the development application for a six-week period.

The shire received eight submissions from the public, with two submissions raising objection.

Shire officers acknowledged that the facility might have some visual impact and that some people were concerned about the potential health effects of the facility.
