In a heartwarming show of community spirit, Narrogin and Wagin locals gathered at an East Piesseville farm on Sunday to help a hospitalised farmer with her family’s work.

About 20 Narrogin and Wagin farmers and townspeople rolled up their sleeves on Sunday to clear the Goldsmiths’ cropping paddocks of rocks and stumps.

Wagin chief executive Phillip Blight said he put the message out that he was seeking volunteers to pick rocks out of the family’s paddock after a car accident put Carol Goldsmith in hospital.

Ms Goldsmith was injured in a single-vehicle motor accident on July 22 when her Isuzu truck left the road and collided with a tree on Edwards Road.

She is currently at Perth Royal Hospital with minor injuries with her husband Ross by her side.

Carol and Ross Goldsmith received Wagin’s 2019 Citizen of the Year Award for their volunteer work including as members of Wagin’s Bushfire Brigade.

“They have done a power of work volunteering,” Mr Blight said.

“We want to give back to those who give to the community.

“It shows how much we appreciate and need our neighbours.”

The group were allocated to different paddocks and successfully cleared them all in an hour with large piles of rocks in the back of their utes to commemorate their hard work.

“The job has an urgency about it as it has to be done before the crops grow too tall,” Mr Blight said.

The shire CEO said he was warmed by the volunteers’ generosity and thrilled to be a part of such a hard-working community.
