Detectives have issued a fresh plea for help and set up shop in a remote Wheatbelt town as they search for answers over the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of a 50-year-old man in June.

At 6pm on June 6, Kulin police were responding to a welfare call for a man who had just left a shop in town when they discovered his dead body at 6.15pm on Corrigin-Kulin Road near Ellson Street, approximately one kilometre from the town centre.

On June 7, police said the death was a suspected hit and run and appealed for information a week later on June 15.

With no major developments two months on and a family desperate for answers, Major Crash investigators arrived in town on Thursday with significant resources and set up a mobile police facility on Johnston Street.

Locals are encouraged to drop into the facility, which opened on Thursday and will remain in town until Saturday.

Detective Sergeant Jade Lay said the injuries sustained by the deceased — who was wearing dark clothing at the time — suggested he was hit by a vehicle though it was possible the driver may not have realised what they had done.

“We are considering the driver may have struck the man accidentally without the driver’s knowledge,” he said.

The team has been handing out flyers to local businesses to help spread the word.

“Any information the public can provide, no matter how insignificant you think it might be, could help us find out what happened that night,” Detective Sergeant Lay said.

“There’s a family out there that would like answers, so we’ve got to try.”
