The man who is claimed to have pointed a firearm at students at a Mid West college is set to go to trial almost a year after the allegations arose.

In August this year, Morawa police alleged Jerremy Gordon Harrington was a passenger in a vehicle when he pointed a firearm at two high school students.

Police say the firearm was not discharged.

Officer-in-charge Sgt Nathan Smith said the students were accompanied by an adult at the time of the alleged incident, when a school bus was being refuelled to collect star pickets from a shed to play recreational football.

Mr Harrington, 26, was charged with two counts of pointing a firearm at another person.

The Banksia Grove man answered his bail from Joondalup while the matter was heard in Geraldton Magistrates Court on Monday.

A two-day trial has been listed, with Mr Harrington to face court on Monday August 4 — 51 weeks following the alleged incident.

He previously pleaded not guilty to the charges.

It’s understood Mr Harrington had allegedly been culling kangaroos on land owned by the Department of Education at the time of the incident.

Department of Education professional standards and conduct executive director Mary Brown previously told The Midwest Times the department was aware of the incident and the students were being supported.

“We are aware of an incident that occurred on the college grounds on a weekend which is now a WA Police matter,” she said.

“As this is currently before the court I am unable to make any further comment.

“Support has been provided to students affected and is available for as long as it is needed.”
