A popular new snack available in supermarkets is being recalled as Australians get ready for the AFL grand final.

Consumers have been urged to return a McCain frozen food product sold in supermarkets and retailers across Australia after it was discovered the product had been contaminated with a foreign item.

Plastic has been discovered in 230g packets of Pickers by McCain Nacho Cheese Triangles which could cause illness or injury if consumed.

McCain Foods Pty Ltd has recalled its Foods Pickers Nacho Cheese Triangles sold at Woolworths, Coles, IGA and independent retailers in NSW, Queensland, SA, Tasmania, Victoria and WA.

The product was sold at Coles and Woolworths, IGA, Drakes and other retailers in NSW, Queensland, Victoria Western Australia, Tasmania and South Australia.

Authorities have advised consumers not eat the product and return the item to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Anyone how consumes the product and is concerned about their health should seek medical advice.
