Railways forward Chris Yarran is in the box seat for the Dick Robinson Medal after his 13 goals underpinned the side’s 183-point win, 31.15 (201) to 3.0 (18), against Kambalda on Saturday to conclude round 13 in the Goldfields Football League.

Yarran’s day-out took his season-tally from 10 games to 59 goals and spearheaded the Panthers’ 17-goal first half.

His latest haul was his biggest of the season and followed-up his 10 majors a fortnight earlier against Kalgoorlie.

Yarran won the medal in 2021 with 69 goals and the following season his 15 games yielded 48 goals — including nine in the preliminary final against Mines Rovers.

He opened the 2023 season with 26 goals in the first three games, including 20 against Kambalda in round three that equalled a GFL record dating back 117 years.

However, injuries last year restricted him to just nine games for 34 goals.

Railways’ latest win included four goals each from Joe Kemp and Kyle Penny, and three apiece to Kyde Stubbs and Trent Reed.

Ryan Fisher (two) and Ryan Williams accounted for Kambalda’s goals, but they remain without a win in 2024 and have lost former player-coach Rory Gurr.

Gurr at the weekend played for Mines Rovers, joining the Diorites before the June 30 clearance deadline.

Railways, who are unbeaten, play Boulder this Saturday in a replay of the 2023 grand final with coach Rhett Pettit likely to recall a host of front-liners.

Jack Steel, Kyle Hams, Jack Kennedy and Norman Stubbs all missed last Saturday’s win against the Eagles.
