Mines have leapfrogged YMHC into third place in the Eastern Goldfields Hockey Association’s A1 men’s standings after a goal apiece to John Bates and Brody Marsh underpinned a 2-0 triumph when the teams clashed last weekend.

With the 2024 finals series again being decided on a top-three format, it was a crucial win for Mines, who assumed the last finals spot with just four rounds of qualifiers left.

Last weekend’s result took the blue-and-whites’ overall record to four wins, two draws and seven losses.

YMHC also have four wins, alongside nine defeats.

Also in the division, CBC secured a ninth victory in a big win against Pegasus, 5-1 - Ryan Connor leading the way with two goals for the winners.

CBC remain the benchmark of the A1 women’s division after Kyra King’s two conversions led a 3-0 triumph against Norths.

In the juniors, Norths’ J9/12 girls have secured third place and finals berth with their win last weekend over Mines.

A big weekend looms in the boys’ J3/8 division when Mines and YMHC, who are tied at the head of the ladder, are opposed.

Similarly, if Pegasus can notch a win this weekend they will tie Norths in third place heading into the final two rounds.

Among the girls’ J3/8 division, YMHC are third but lead CBC by just two points as the qualifying series winds down.

Week 18 fixtures start on Friday night at 6.30pm when Mines oppose CBC in the A2 men’s division.
