Alex Jerrard’s E-section campaign at senior country week for the Eastern Goldfields Cricket Association couldn’t have been better scripted, either from a personal or team perspective.

In addition to captaining the group to a decisive win against Busselton-Margaret River in Friday’s final by 86 runs that earned them a promotion, Jerrard led all batters with 230 runs at 57.50 from Great Southern’s David Hinchcliffe (224 runs at 56.00).

His EGCA teammate Jarrod Lucas ranked third by amassing 190 runs at 47.50, with Ash Malec also an important cog in the team’s success with 111 runs at 55.50.

Among bowlers, EGCA’s Stuart Kennedy grabbed 11 wickets at 6.91 to trail only South Midlands’ Benjamin Whitely (12 wickets at 8.08).

Kennedy was ably supported by Prash Nagaraja, who finished with nine wickets at 15.44 after being a late inclusion, and Mitch Gray snared seven wickets at 14.57.

E-section success was the first step in major efforts to climb up the rankings after the EGCA was not represented by a second team in 2023 and were last year banished to the bottom grade.
