August excited for new role at helm of Two Blues for upcoming EGCA season

Great Boulder’s new senior coach Warren August said he will head into the Eastern Goldfields Cricket Association’s 2024-25 season rejuvenated at the helm of a talented A-grade squad with plenty to prove this summer.

August assumes the role from Dylan Hinchliffe, who led the group to the minor premiership in each of his three seasons, only to lose the grand final.

After five seasons with Hannans in the EGCA, August — who is in his second Goldfields stint after initially arriving in 2012 — said he looked forward to what he could accomplish with the Two Blues.

“Everyone respects Dylan and he’s obviously left a solid base to hopefully win a flag,” August said.

“I think I’ll be different to him — obviously he was a player-coach, but I’d prefer at the moment to be looking from the outside in (as a non-playing coach).

“I’d never say never (about playing) because it obviously depends on numbers, but it’s probably better to be observing from outside, rather than being out in the middle when there’s sometimes a bit of tunnel vision.

“I’ve never been this excited about a new cricket season since I was about 10, so I look forward to it.”

Pre-season training is expected to be launched late next month.

At the Two Blues’ annual general meeting last Sunday, Alex Jerrard was retained as president with Shane Robbins elected vice-president on a committee rounded out by Jake Basire, Mitch Gray, Hinchliffe, Pete McKenzie, and Nathan Weir.
