Eastern Goldfields Kart Club’s West Kalgoorlie circuit will showcase a big chunk of WA’s best drivers across nine divisions at this weekend’s annual Dash For Cash meeting.

Six weeks after the club hosted the State championships and nearly 200 competitors, local drivers again have home track advantage for the three-day program — starting on Friday, with official practice from noon.

Gates on Saturday open at 6.30am and a drivers’ briefing is at 8.15am for an 8.30am start.

Sunday’s program also starts at 8.30am.

The club’s blue-ribbon event has drawn some of go-karting’s biggest names during the past 15 years, including Italian ace Roberto Toninelli at the 2010 event.

Toninelli justified the long trip by dominating the program and earning $9000 in prizemoney.

A dual European Cup winner, he was desperate to defend the KZ2 title he won in Kalgoorlie-Boulder the following year but was foiled by an international airline strike.

EGKC’s West Kalgoorlie track was opened as an international-standard facility in 1995, made possible by the work by local volunteers and contract workers.

The 2012 Dash For Cash featured former member Michael Patrizi, who had moved into the prestigious ranks of the V8 Supercars, and former three-time motorcycle world champion Troy Bayliss as special guests.
