Young tennis star bound for Queensland

Rising tennis star Jarrod Capararo will travel to Queensland later this month as part of an interstate tour with the Tennis West Regional Talent Development program.

The program, which has strict criteria, will tour Queensland from June 29 to July 9, playing in two Australian Ranking tournaments.

The tour will comprise the 2014 Solinco Series - Queensland Junior Claycourt Championships and the 2014 Rod Laver lead-in event.

Jarrod has been selected in the WA side after a string of strong performances during the past few months, which include winning his boys' 12s singles and teams events at the CBH Country Championships and winning the boys' 12s singles division at the Esperance Open.

Lower Great Southern Tennis Association junior tennis co-ordinator David Kerr said Jarrod had worked extremely hard to win his place on the tour.

"Jarrod is coming off a good three or four months of tennis and hopefully he can continue it in Queensland," Kerr said.

Kerr said Jarrod would be one to watch in the coming years as his game developed.

"He's our first State representative in a couple of years; it's really good for him to get into this team," he said. "Jarrod has a lot of natural talent and he plays with the adults out at Merrifield Park and does well in their club championship.

"That exposure to senior tennis helps him heaps in the junior tournaments."

Jarrod said he was excited about going away on tour.

"It's really good to be going on tour, but it's going to be hard competition," he said.

"My aim is to hopefully win one match."

The 12-year-old St Joseph's College student plays locally at Merrifield Park Tennis Club and trains three to four times a week.

He said he considered his forehand was the strongest part of his game.
