Star Albany motocross rider Corben Weinert has jumped to the top of standings in one of his divisions at the WAMX Junior State Championship after a strong result in round 2 at Beverley on Sunday.

Weinert finished third overall competing in his 100cc-125cc 13-15-years class at the opening round of the WA titles last month in Geraldton but he claimed round 2 honours with an impressive performance in all three moto events this time around.

The teenager was second across the line behind Regan Duffy in the first race on Sunday and backed that up with successive third place finishes to collect a total of 92 points and take overall round honours.

Weinert (92 points) edged out Mat Fabry (70) who won the final two events and Duffy (67) in the round standings and that was enough to lift him into the series lead with 176 points, just in front of Fabry (175) and Duffy (163).

On the same day Weinert also competed in the 85cc-150cc 12-16 years category where he took third place over after the three races.

Weinert finished second in the first race and crossed the line third in his next before a fourth place in the final event saw him finish with 90 points.

Brady Gilmore (199) leads the series narrowly from Weinert (195) and Rhys Burnett (176).

Denmark’s Sam Baxter finished sixth overall in his 100cc-125cc 15 years division after two sixths and a seventh in the three events.

The 74 points Baxter collected leaves him in seventh place in the overall standings with leader Mitchell Outram on 197.

Round 3 of the six-event series will be held at Coastal Park, Henderson on July 3.
