A 22-year-old Albany woman has faced court after allegedly attacking her partner with a kitchen knife and stabbing his sister multiple times in the leg during a violent ordeal at North Road Shopping Centre on Saturday afternoon.

The woman appeared in custody in Albany Magistrate’s Court yesterday after she allegedly attempted to stab her partner in the shopping centre carpark following a domestic dispute.

Police allege the woman became enraged after a 72-hour order was placed on the couple preventing contact and she pursued and located her partner who was with his sister and friend.

The woman, who faces six charges including threats to kill and aggravated unlawful wounding, is alleged to have reached into a car where they were parked and stabbed the man’s sister twice in the leg causing heavy bleeding to her thigh as she attempted to defend herself.

She then allegedly attempted to stab her partner as he left the car and he was forced to place a shopping trolley between them to prevent being attacked.

As a 94-year-old man attempted to intervene, the stabbing victim drove the car and struck the alleged attacker with the car resulting in her being flown onto the bonnet where she stabbed at the windscreen with a carving knife.

Detective Senior Sergeant Tom Doyle said the attack continued when the man was allegedly assaulted by his partner with a windscreen wiper blade, receiving welts to his back.

Police arrested the woman at the scene after the victims eventually escaped when they fled to a nearby service station.

The stabbing victim was treated at Albany Health Campus for two stab wounds to her thigh.

Det Sen Sgt Doyle said the alleged attack was witnessed by a taxi driver, a friend of the stabbing victim and the 94-year-old man who attempted to intervene.

He said it would be alleged the attack occurred after police placed a 72-hour order on the couple preventing contact after an ongoing domestic dispute.

The woman also faces charges of attempted aggravated unlawful wounding, carrying an article to cause fear, criminal damage and aggravated assault occasioning bodily harm.

She was set to appear in custody in Albany Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
