Leading Albany trainer Steve Wolfe is confident his stable can continue their red-hot form during the final month of the 2015-16 racing season after notching eight winners so far this month in a brilliant patch.

Wolfe, who bases his stable in Perth during the winter months, has the best strike rate of any horse trainer in Australia in the past 21 days with seven winners from 19 runners.

Since the Great Southern season wrapped up, where he won yet another trainers premiership, Wolfe has had nine victories at spanning across Belmont, Pinjarra and Kalgoorlie which has included impressive two-year-old winners If Only, Miss Lawrence and Minus Looks.

The astute trainer has racked up 52 winners so far this season, 13 at metropolitan tracks and 37 at the provincials, and believes this final month could produce even more.

“In the last couple of years winter has been a bit quiet for us but we’ve been turning a lot of stock over,” Wolfe said.

“Clearing some out and putting a lot of time into the younger horses and you need to move them on to get to the next level.

“Our two-year-olds have come to the fore, we’ve put a bit more effort into them this year and to be honest it has been a bit of a changing in the guard for us.”

Wolfe said purchasing a stack of young horses in recent years has led to this terrific run.

“We have kept buying at the sales even though it’s been hard financially and the owners have stuck with us,” he said.

“We’ve had eight individual winners this month and fingers crossed it continues.

“We have got a bit of ammo up our sleeve and I’m really looking forward to what’s ahead.” He labelled Minus Looks, who won on debut, as one of the best two-year-olds in WA and along with One Short could be aimed at the Belgravia Stakes and WA Guineas later in the year.

War Jeune was ultra-impressive scoring first-up from a spell over 1000m at Belmont last Saturday to remain unbeaten after two starts and will race again in three weeks.

Yesterday Wolfe had hot favourite Hey Listen win comfortably at Belmont while My Greek Boy looks ideally suited in the Amelia Park Handicap (1300m) at Belmont on Saturday with barrier one and 55.5kg on his back.
