Albany trainer Steve Wolfe is struggling to separate talented three-year-olds Minus Looks and One Short ahead of Saturday’s $500,000 WA Guineas (1600m) at Ascot as part of the TABTouch Masters carnival.

Wolfe will saddle up two runners in the Group 2 feature race, with Minus Looks to be ridden by Shaun McGruddy from barrier 12, while Peter Hall takes the mount on One Short, which will jump from gate nine.

The leading Albany trainer is looking to have a better opening day of the Ascot carnival after his stable star Mr Utopia finished last in the 2015 Railway Stakes.

Wolfe couldn’t separate his two youngsters believing with luck in running they could both play a part in the finish.

“I’d like to think (Minus Looks) is a good chance with any luck in running,” he said.

“If he can get midfield with cover he’ll be there at the finish.

“One Short is going really well and hopefully Hally will have him a bit closer than his last run. Both will be better horses later on but you don’t get a crack at these types of races too often.”

The pair were $31 chances with TAB when the markets re-opened on Monday but Minus Looks drifted slightly to $34 yesterday and One Short blew out to $51.

The Neville Parnham-trained Ellicazoom is a $5 favourite for the race which will be run at 4.15pm on Saturday.
