Wave of success for Great Southern clubs
Albany and Denmark have performed well at the Surf Life Saving Western Australia Awards of Excellence event in Perth last Saturday.
Denmark Surf Life Saving Club stalwart Murray Thornton was honoured as a life member, nearly 40 years after receiving his Bronze Medallion.
DSLSC president George Mumford said Mr Thornton was an integral part of the club
“When you think of the Denmark Surf Life Saving Club you think of him; he’s contributed so much in his time,” he said.
The Albany Surf Life Saving Club had a number of winners; Celia Waugh was named as Trainer of the Year, Perdita Beebe received Administrator of the Year and ASLSC was second in the Club of the Year award, which it won last year.
ASLSC president Rob Mason praised the two individual winners
“We are delighted that Celia Waugh and Perdi Beebe have been recognised as the best in WA in the fields of training and administration respectively,” he said
“Our club was awarded second place in the prestigious and highly competitive Club of the Year which we feel was an outstanding effort coming on the back of last year’s win,”
Mr Mason said ASLSC should be proud of this year’s results
“Our club leaders, volunteers and members should be very proud and know that we punch well above our weight when it comes to delivering an outstanding service not only to our members, but the community at large,” he said
“We have big plans for 2017 — our centenary year so we expect the judges will have to give Albany serious consideration again.”
