Two members of the band now known as The Waifs left Albany in 1992 to become an international music sensation, and now the band is returning their gratitude to their home city.

The Albany Community Foundation announced the band as its third and final ambassador this week to complement WA cricketing great Ian Brayshaw and former world top-10 women's tennis star Alicia Molik.

As the golden children of Albany's strong artistic community, The Waifs accepted the foundation's invitation and were honoured to be asked.

Foundation vice-chairman Jeremy Stewart said they could not be more proud to have the outfit represent their values and to have such a strong team of ambassadors in only their second year as an organisation.

"It's a massive coup to the foundation to have such down-to-earth, high-profile people that are aligning their values with what we're trying to achieve," he said.

Foundation chairman Tae Wood said it was an honour to have the band as an ambassador.

"To have these high-profile people that want to come on board is vindication that we have a quality organisation," he said.

Ambassadors take an active role in the foundation and promote it through their networks.

"It's very humbling for us to have these types of people involved … it gives credibility to our organisation to have people who have high profiles to lend their name to us," Mr Wood said.
