Veteran claims another honour
North County veteran Craig Tonkin has claimed Albany Cricket Association’s top honour for an eighth time.
As well as winning the A-grade umpires’ player of the year award, the Bulldogs linchpin also claimed the Michael Storm Memorial Trophy for all-rounder of the year for a ninth-time, as well as captains’ player of the year.
After a season of 709 runs at an average of 59.08, Tonkin also won the batting aggregate award ahead of Denmark duo Peter Ross (619) and Damian Schwarzbach (577).
Denmark seamer Brad Stewart won A-grade’s leading wicket taker with 32 scalps, while Collingwood Park’s Hayden Burling won the bowling average with 19 wickets at an average of 9.3, despite missing the last five games.
Burling’s teammate Jack Hudson-Williams won the batting average after scoring 423 runs at 70.5 from eight games.
Narrikup’s Alec Haskins dominated the B-grade awards by winning the umpires’, captains’ and all-rounder awards, as well as the batting aggregate with 902 runs at an average of 64.43.
This was bettered by Warriors’ Rob Gibson who averaged 70.5.
Gibson’s teammate Aaron Williams won the B-grade bowling average, while Manypeaks’ John Elefteriadis was the stand-out bowler claiming 37 wickets, 14 clear of his nearest rival.
Railways Coen Marwick received the Syd Harper Award for best under-21 cricketer, becoming one of the youngest winners of the award at just 16.
