The owner of an Albany haulage company has urged motorists to show more patience on the road.

Halls Haulage owner Brian Hall said he had seen some ridiculous behaviour in his 40 years experience driving road trains in and around Albany.

Mr Hall said motorists often did not leave enough room when overtaking road trains, forcing truck drivers to slam on their brakes.

"It's mainly impatience," he said.

"They tear past you and pull in right in front of you or don't speed up once they have got around you and you don't have enough room to brake.

"Sometimes they will try to pass you on double white lines or pass you where they shouldn't."

Mr Hall said the Chester Pass Road roundabout and sections of Albany Highway without passing lanes were hotspots for road rage and risky driving.

"People at the roundabout need to be patient," he said.

"We are 26.5m long and we gross 128.5 tonnes.

"You try taking off at 128.5 tonnes and it's not going to speed off like a Ferrari."

Mr Hall said road train drivers often copped abuse when transporting grain or fertiliser from Chester Pass Road to Hanrahan Road, towards Albany port.

"We could sit there patiently but we would be there all day, sometimes we have to take off when there is a break in the traffic," he said.

"Cars are going to be there, no doubt about it.

"Then they're on the horn blowing and yelling at you and pulling the bird - it's a bit of a pain."

Mr Hall's closest call at the roundabout was when a man in a four-wheel-drive mounted a curb just in front of his bull bar to overtake him about 10 years ago.

"At the end of the day, it's a bit frustrating, but … we all have to use the road together," he said.
