Trophy honour for a lifetime of service

Albany Rifle Club president Bill Price will be recognised for his contribution to the sport of shooting with a perpetual trophy named in his honour up for grabs in a four-man teams challenge.

The challenge is open to any team in the State wishing to compete against the Albany four-man team and will be shot locally for the inaugural edition.

Price has been honoured for celebrating 60 years in the sport of shooting today and will present the trophy, which he hand-made, to the club captain at a club shoot this weekend.

“I consider we have the best four-man team in the State,” Price said.

“So we are throwing the challenge out immediately but there is no fixed date … at this stage it will probably be shot in January next year at one of our major shoots.”

After starting his shooting career back in 1952 in Kulin, Price has been competing in Albany since 1986 but the 81-year-old said he could see no signs of giving up.

“I have had great camaraderie in the club and the guys I have met along the way have been great,” he said. “Over the years I have had a fair bit of success.

“I have had a purple patch (recently), I have dropped five points in five weeks so I can’t see a stop just yet.”

Despite shooting from a table because of an on-going back problem, Price has previously represented the State on three occasions and the representative veterans association twice.
