Two young members from the Albany Dragon Boat Club have been selected to represent WA in the upcoming national competition in Perth.

Connor Chant, 13, and Riley Taylor, 14, will compete as part of the State junior team at the national titles from April 13 to 17 at Champion Lakes.

They will compete in the 200m before racing as the Fremantle Swan Junior Dragon Boat team, the Cygnets, in the 500m and 200m.

Riley said he was very excited about the upcoming championships and training with the Albany Dragon Boat Club had given him invaluable experience.

"The reason I appreciate being with the senior team is that they have gathered a lot of different teaching methods over the years and have a positive outlook," he said.

Connor recently won silver for 200m sprints and gold for the 500m sprints at the State titles in Perth on March 22.

He said learning from more experienced competitors was vital in his progression in the sport.

"Find someone that's already an expert and take their advice, then if you keep trying and work hard you'll get a bit better each time," he said.
