Table Tennis: Campbell cleans up

CAMERON NEWBOLDAlbany Advertiser

Craig Campbell had a clean sweep at the Albany Volkswagen Open Country Table Tennis Championships on the long weekend.

Campbell won the men’s open singles event, men’s open doubles and mixed open doubles events in a terrific personal achievement for him.

He defeated Greg Letts (4 games to 3) in the singles before teaming up with Letts to defeat

Mike Dombrose and Irwin Parker (3-1) in the men’s doubles.

In the mixed doubles he joined forces with Fiona Congreve as they showed too much class for Phillip Ranger and Mike Dombrose (3-1).

Congreve also was in her fair share of finals after winning the women’s open singles title from number one seed Mary Dombrose. The result was a huge upset with Dombrose expected to win but she surrendered to Congreve (4-2).

Dombrose did get revenge, however, when she and Tjen Joeng beat Congreve and Joyce Williams (3-0) convincingly in the women’s open doubles final.

Albany was well represented in the under-14 boys singles with both finalists being locals.

James Naylor got the better of Sam Gibson (3-1) in that match, while Moises Garcia claimed the under-16 boys final with a comfortable victory over Tim Mironenko (3-0).

Albany won four events in the tournament with chairman Peter Muller congratulating the local players.
