Albany Town Hall will be decked out with boughs of holly this Christmas to encourage visitors to take part in a new social media campaign.

The initiative aims to attract more visitors to the CBD by encouraging people to upload selfies taken outside the decorated hall to Instagram with the hashtag #deck thehallalbany.

Albany Eclectic Events organiser Jo Taylor said it was a fun concept.

"It will hopefully promote the CBD and encourage people to come down here and just have some fun," she said.

"People don't just want to be entertained, they want to be part of an experience.

"These days with events, it's about coming down and actually creating something yourself that can then be posted and shared on social media."

The decorations will remain up until New Year's Eve.

With the Albany Christmas pageant on next Saturday, it is hoped people will join in the campaign.

More than 8500 people attended the pageant last year.

Head down to the Town Hall to take a selfie and upload it to Instagram, but don't forget to include #deckthehallalbany.
