Slattery caps Olympic year with dual honours
South Stirling Hockeyroo Kathryn Slattery has been rewarded for her excellent year at international level, winning two awards last week.
The rising star, who has made 62 appearances for the Hockeyroos and scored 21 goals since her debut in 2014, was acknowledged at the Hockey Australia awards night and the Curtin University Sports Awards.
At the Hockey Australia awards at Fraser’s Restaurant in Kings Park last Monday, Slattery was recognised as the Hockeyroos’ top goal scorer in the past year, alongside Emily Smith, as the pair finished with 13 goals apiece.
The 23-year-old was a shining light for the Hockeyroos in a disappointing Rio Olympic Games campaign, finishing as their leading goal scorer.
Later in the week, the striker was recognised at the Curtin University Sports Awards for outstanding sporting achievements of students, alumni, sports clubs and volunteers in the Curtin community.
Currently studying a Bachelor of Agribusiness at Curtin, Slattery was awarded the sportswoman of the year award.
Slattery will be a part of the Hockeyroos side that begins a trans-Tasman series against New Zealand in Auckland starting today before returning to Melbourne to be a part of the national squad that will play in the 2016 Women’s International Festival of Hockey against India, starting on Wednesday, November 23.
