Showdown at the Speedway

Australian champion Daryl Clayden will run a new motor in his Wingless Sprint for Saturday’s Southern Showdown at Albany Speedway in preparation for the upcoming national title.

Clayden, who headlines a list of list of 13 Wingless Sprints nominated for Attwell Park, will have a new motor on his machine as he attempts to win consecutive feature races in Albany, after his win last season.

“We are putting a new motor in at the moment,” Clayden said on Tuesday.

“We want to run it in for the Aussie title in Sydney in February.”

He said the growing division will enjoy the vast expanses of Attwell Park and are keen to put on a show.

“A lot of guys like the Albany track and there is normally pretty good racing there,” he said.

“There are a quite a few competitive cars, not a huge field but a lot of good guys.”

The Australian champion and former Sprintcar pilot will face Albany’s Ryan Condren, who is fresh off a second placing at the Perth Motorplex, along with Jono Coyle, Daryl Spalding and Kyle Beard.

Victorian Marlon Walsh will make his first visit to Attwell Park while Bunbury driver, and current Northern Territory State champion, Daniel Keen will also compete. A quality field of 13 Super Mods will also visit Albany with Darren Alymore, Neville Williams, William Shaw and Andrew Wilson leading these nominations.

Brothers Sam and Braiden Jewell will do battle in the formula 125 feature after both have started the season in red-hot form.

Sam won the division easily in the opening meeting of the year but Braiden bounced back to be undefeated a fortnight ago.

Racing starts at 6pm.
