David Walmsley is one of about 20 prosthetic-wearing people in Albany, and wants to share experiences and advice.

“So there’s 20 people around Albany with prosthetic legs, I’ve been introduced to three of them, but I would like to meet the other 17 too,” he said.

“I’ve had some very good advice from other amputees; it helped me through my difficult time.

“I thought I should return the favour by passing that on to someone else if it’s possible.”

Mr Walmsley retired from Perth to Albany seven years ago after losing his wife, and joined up with relatives in the area.

“It’s been great here, losing my leg was a bit of a shock, but other than that it’s been a success,” he said.

Mr Walmsley lost his leg in October last year and got a prosthetic leg fitted in March this year.

“I was a cigarette smoker since I was a young man and I had nearly given it up. I got a blood clot in my leg and, a week later, it hurt so I got taken to hospital and they had to cut the darn thing off,” he said.
