Seniors get a buzz out of "Spoons"

MARC SIMOJOKIAlbany Advertiser

About 60 seniors filled Narrogin Senior Citizens Centre to watch Australia’s Got Talent finalist and viral internet sensation Deb “Spoons” Perry last Wednesday at the home’s Swing Time Dance.

Narrogin Cottage Homes activities co-ordinator Margaret Bourdon said she was thrilled the home was able to get Mrs Perry to attend the afternoon dance.

“It was a great day and people came from Pingelly and Wickepin, all over really, to see Deb and to dance,” she said.

“It also was wonderful that she gave a private performance at Karinya for those residents who couldn’t come down to the actual dance.”

Mrs Perry said she got a buzz out of entertaining the elderly.

Her career in spoons has gone from strength to strength following her performance of the Black Keys’ Lonely Boy, which has been viewed more than 1.2 million times since it was launched on YouTube four months ago.

“It’s great to see their faces light up because what I do is kind of joyful and fun,” Mrs Perry said. “I have an energetic way of playing my spoons.”

As well as watching Mrs Perry playing the spoons, seniors danced to classic swing numbers and had lunch.
