A group of South-East Asian food importers, travel writers and executive chefs have been given a taste of what the Great Southern has to offer as a part of a familiarisation tour of the region last week.

The 13 member group, which comprised food experts from Malaysia and Singapore, visited a host of food and beverage businesses and were given insight into the region’s key industries, courtesy of the Great Southern Development Commission.

Group members said they enjoyed the experience and the region’s fresh produce, and they were impressed by opportunities in a number of industries.

GSDC chairman Ross Thornton said the tour was organised in conjunction with Tourism WA and the WA Trade Office in Singapore.

“The Great Southern boasts outstanding produce and superb travel experiences,” he said.

“The commission is always keen to further raise the profile of our regional produce and tourism, particularly among groups such as this.”

Mr Thornton said this process was an important aspect of promoting the region.

“Members of the tour included decision-makers from significant food and hospitality organisations, and writers for travel, lifestyle and food publications,” he said.

“Ensuring that they learnt about our quality produce and our travel attractions is part of promoting the Great Southern as a natural choice for opportunity and lifestyle.”
