Roadside tragedy for Rosie

PHOEBE WEARNEAlbany Advertiser

There was only one known casualty from this month’s verge rubbish collection.

Unfortunately, it was the beloved doll of one of Albany’s younger residents, who had recently received it as a birthday gift.

Four-year-old Rosie Nicoll momentarily left her new Baby Alive doll and pram outside after playing in a cubby house created using a couch on her family’s Anzac Road verge.

By the time she returned from the house to fetch her toys, the doll had been snapped up by someone who probably thought they had the find of the century.

Her old doll, which was pre-loved by her mother was, surprisingly, left behind.

Rosie had just one thing to say to the passer-by who may have picked up her prize toy by mistake: “Can I have my dolly back, please?”

Her mother, Karen Nicoll, said it had proved to be the wrong time of the year to leave precious toys outside.

“We’ve got the best neighbours in the world so it didn’t occur to us that it was not the time of year to leave toys near the road,” she said.

“All of her other dolls were hand-me-downs.

“We know it was just an honest mistake.

“It was just a shame that it was her birthday dolly.

“She’s very upset.”
