Irish dance group Rhythms of Ireland performed a show in Albany earlier this month, bringing an end to their three-month nationwide tour.

Jigging their way around the country, the group performed popular routines at the Albany Entertainment Centre, on October 6.

In addition to their performance, Rhythms of Ireland generously shared their expertise with aspiring young dancers, teaching the art of Irish dance at an intimate workshop on Thursday, October 5,

Tara Academy of Irish Dance is the only Irish dancing school in Albany and their young prospering students had the opportunity to learn from the accomplished performers.

Tara Dance principal Lucy Fernandez said the tour and workshops were an amazing experience for the dance school.

“It’s an incredible opportunity for the kids to learn from and watch these brilliant dancers,” Ms Fernandez said.

“The dancers taught us some of the moves at the show which was really cool and we also got a private viewing.

“The kids were in awe and they learnt a lot and we got to meet most of the crew and watch them practise which was awesome for us.”

Ms Fernandez said the lessons provided new ideas for the school to incorporate into their future productions.

“It’s good to learn new display steps and footstep moves,” she said.

“We can learn and practise them and then use them in shows later down the track.”

“There was lots of tapping and arm movements and it was just such a great experience.”

Rhythms of Ireland director Kevin Goble said the group thrived on the lessons they provided for dance schools.

“Hosting workshops for younger dancers has been a fantastic part of our tour,” Mr Goble said.

“It’s a rewarding experience to share our knowledge and skills with the next generation of dancers.

“Seeing their enthusiasm and passion for Irish dance is truly inspiring and it’s great for us to give back to the dance community and help nurture young talent.”
