Regional home will be in Albany

The 2011 Telethon Regional Home will be designed and built in Albany by WA Country Builders, it was announced last week.

Each year a home built with donated materials and labour is auctioned off in October, with full proceeds going towards the Telethon appeal for Princess Margaret Hospital.

With last year’s regional home constructed at Geraldton, 2011 has Albany receiving the honour for the first time.

WA Country Builders’ sales manager Trish Flynn said the initial problem was finding a land developer able to provide a block of land.

After approaching Heath Development Company in conjunction with the Department of Housing, a block of land was provided in the Oyster Harbour development near Lower Kalgan.

She said the block had wide frontage and views of the lake and landscaped gardens and the home’s design would take advantage of this.

“The plans are drawn and it looks beautiful,” she said. “It’s got plenty of windows to take in the view and high-raked ceilings running through the living and dining rooms. It’s a very attractive home.”

Ms Flynn said she hoped building would commence late March in order to reach the finish line in September, with the auction held in October.

“We already have the promise of the pest control and the survey for the block, the concrete slab, the roof and guttering, so we’re doing well already and we’re very pleased with the response so far.”

Money raised through the auction will be earmarked for spending within the region.
