Police check out foreshore trap

TIM EDMUNDSAlbany Advertiser

A trap on the Esplanade foreshore at Lower King has been dismantled and is being investigated by police.

Made of shards of glass, star pickets and barbed wire, the trap was discovered by local residents.

Police, with help from City of Albany rangers, dismantled the trap last Thursday. Constable Leanne May said the person responsible had gone to considerable lengths to disguise the trap among the bush and it was lucky no one was seriously hurt.

She said it appeared the trap, on crown land, was set with the intention on secluding a section of the foreshore. “Certainly some of the locals are upset about this and rightfully so,” Const. May said.

Albany police officer-in-charge Sergeant Peter McLean said officers were still making enquiries with local residents and were yet to charge anyone.

Sgt McLean said the culprit would be charged with setting a mantrap if located by police.
