Players to take on the best in Victoria
Following a successful re-entry into division 1 in the women’s senior hockey Country Week tournament, three Lower Great Southern Hockey Association players were selected in the CBH Country Women’s State team.
Gemma Hitchcock, Stacey Wallace and Ashlyn Gardner were all selected in the WA team that will take part in the national championships in Bendigo, Victoria, from July 28 to August 4.
Last year four LGSHA representatives played in the women’s national championships, with Hitchcock returning for the second consecutive year while Gardner will make her debut for the Sandgropers.
Wallace was also selected for the second year in a row, but a broken arm will sideline her from the tournament.
Elsa Piggott was also selected in the WA team as one of four train-on players who can come into the team for any injuries or forced withdrawals.
Hitchcock is looking forward to the trip. “I know the quality of hockey there and it’s a well organised trip.”
The Manypeaks star believes more LGSHA representatives is great news for local hockey and was also glad boyfriend David Pyle will make the trip with her after making the WA Country Men’s State team.
LGSHA and Tigers goal keeper Gardner said she was thrilled by the selection.
Rodney Thornton will coach the WA side for the second year.
