Young children and families alike will revel in seasonal spirit at the City of Albany Christmas Festival and Pageant this Saturday.

The festivities will begin at 3pm in the Town Square with entertainment from a number of community groups including Southern Edge Arts, Spencer Park Primary School Choir, Junk Funktion and FyreByrds.

Then, a vibrant display of floats will parade along York Street from 6pm.

Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington said he was looking forward to his favourite event of the year.

“I thoroughly enjoy the Christmas Festival and Pageant, it’s a fantastic community event that brings our city together to celebrate,” he said.

“To see so many different businesses and community groups come together to put on such a marvellous pageant each year is outstanding, thousands of people enjoy it and I’m sure this year will be no different.”

Local school students under the guidance of artists Kate Campbell-Pope, James Gentle, Lynda Moylan and Serena Mclauchlan, will also display artworks during the pageant.

Local businesses are encouraged to decorate their store windows.

Businesses that do so will go in the running to win two return tickets with Rex Airlines valued at more than $700, with the runner-up receiving a $500 cash prize from the City of Albany.
