North Cottesloe claim victory

North Cottesloe has again put on a strong performance in the Albany Surf Craft Challenge, while two of Albany’s three competing boats placed in the 13km event on Sunday.

The open men’s boat race saw North Cottesloe claim first and second while City of Perth was third.

The open women’s boat race was won by City of Perth, a mixed team from North Cottesloe and Mullaloo were second and Albany was third.

The 180-plus category was won by Trigg Island, with Albany in second position and Sorrento third.

Joshua Calvert took out the open men’s ski race, Ash Nesbit was second and John Grulich, from City of Perth, was third.

The open women’s ski race saw Tricia Gilbert, of City of Perth, place first, North Cottesloe’s Caitlin Hunt was second and Trigg’s Nicole Jahn came third.

In the double ski race, North Cottesloe claimed first, second and third.

On the beach, the 2km open men’s run was won by Nick Robinson, Stephen Parker was second while Albany’s Kieron Benson placed third.

In the women’s event, Katie Anders was first, followed by Jessie O’Mahony and Caitlin Hunt.

In the under-15 boys’ 2km run, Connor Pettley was first with Josh Duffield second and Angus Bowles third.

The under-15 girls’ run was won by Leisel Freebury, Skye Cordon was second and Keira Cordon placed third.

There were 125 competitors on the day with Albany producing three boats and 10 ski paddlers, event co-ordinator Rob Lucas said it was a great event and another good turnout.
