Netball: Coach Steve on the ball
A man performing well in a female dominant sport is rare, but local netball coach Steve Kenworthy is making it happen.

Kenworthy was recently recognised with two State coaching awards after his stellar season on the side line, something which completely shocked him.
He was awarded the Department of Sport and Recreation’s Youth Coach of the Year award while also being selected as the Academy Cup All-Star Coach.
“They were both a real surprise, for the DSR award I got to go to Burswood to receive it and that was great,” Kenworthy said.
“The academy cup includes 12 regions in WA and to be named the coach of the all-star team is huge...it was a real shock.”
He revealed to the Albany Advertiser that during this season he has made regular trips to Perth to assist State netball league team the Midwest Flames while also furthering his coaching.
“I have been doing State league once a week or once a fortnight, mostly on weekends,” he said.
“Everyone has to do an apprenticeship before they take on a coaching role, so they have been getting me involved and have asked me to do it again next year.”
The Kangas 1 A1 coach said he gets a lot of enjoyment out of coaching and can’t see himself stopping anytime soon.
“I love it...it’s great, the team I coach are really good girls with great personality and talent,” he said.
“State is the next level and that’s where I’m going...I’m on a roll so why not.”
Anne Parsons, also from the Great Southern, was recognised by DSR with a coach commendation award.
