Multiple cold fronts bearing down on Great Southern, SW

Albany Advertiser

Residents in the Great Southern have been urged to prepare for possible damaging winds up to 125km/h with two cold fronts bearing down on the region.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) issued the alert to those living in an area south west of a line from Mandurah to Katanning to Bremer Bay, including Albany and Katanning.

The alert said it will be “unusual weather” that only occurs about five times each year and could damage homes.

The Bureau of Meteorology advised that two cold fronts will cross the region late Tuesday evening and during Wednesday afternoon, bringing damaging winds to 100km/h that could gust to 125km/h in coastal areas.

The first cold front is expected to cross the south west coast between 10pm and midnight before moving further east towards Albany between 1am and 4am.
