Meat producers meet to grow their futures

TIM EDMUNDSAlbany Advertiser

Red meat producers from across WA converged on Albany on Tuesday for the annual Southern WA Meat Profit Day, looking at innovative ways to improve productivity.

More than 300 people attended the event at the Albany Entertainment Centre, with many producers gaining an insight into the challenges and opportunities ahead for the industry.

With the theme ‘Growing to meat the future’, Southern WA Meat Profit Day organising committee chair Craig Heggaton said the attendance at the major industry event reflected the domestic and global demand for beef and lamb.

Mr Heggaton said producers from as far as the north of the State had made the trip.

“It’s been a fantastic turnout, there are certainly more people here than expected,” Mr Heggaton said.

The day’s program delivered insightful presentations aimed to improve productivity.

Mr Heggaton said the Meat Profit Days were a powerful combination of field day, conference, trade show and expo and formed a valuable part of Meat and Livestock Australia’s communication strategy with producers.

Minister for Agriculture and Food Terry Redman opened the expo and highlighted the importance of Kojonup-based grower group Southern Dirt in promoting mixed farming across the southern region.
