Marsh takes out best and fairest

Pete Marsh has been crowned the men’s best and fairest player in the Great Southern Soccer Association after a dominant season for Polonia Red, which won the league and cup double.

In just his third season in Albany, Marsh starred all season in the central midfield for Polonia Red.

It was luck that Marsh ended up playing for the Reds, as he was looking to join a team when he moved to Albany and a work colleague suggested Polonia.

The Englishman learnt his craft playing in the County Amateurs division in Yorkshire before moving to Australia.

Marsh credited the award to keeping his head down and playing with a never-say-die attitude.

He said this season was likely to be his last in the association, given his plans to move to Germany with his girlfriend.

“I can’t thank the people at Polonia enough,” he said.

“I came to Australia not knowing anyone really and they have been great to me.

Marsh’s teammate, Cameron Spence was awarded the Golden Boot for most goals.

Caledonians took out both the major awards in the girls’ division 1 with Bridgette Morgan awarded the best and fairest while Annie Waugh won the top goal scorer award.

In the girls division 2, Rovers player Gabby White won the best and fairest title and Denmark’s Liah Cassidy-Smith was the top goal scorer.
